On Fridays in October our family rocks pink in honor of our loved ones who have had breast cancer. We have been blessed by all of them being “conquerors” because of early detection and awareness. Which is why this month means so much to us!
Years ago I spent my birthday in a surgical waiting room in Ohio. I was there to celebrate my best friend Tanika as she had a mastectomy. She wasn’t the only loved one I had watched battle breast cancer, but she was the first my age. I’m happy to say I watched my Aunt Lonza defeat it as well as Tanika’s mom, Tina. And this year I’m grateful for another survivor I get to call family, Sherria Becton. May this list continue to grow as we “keep fighting” for breast cancer awareness!
Tanika won the battle against breast cancer, but I lost her last year to another form of cancer. I ask that in honor of her and others who have battled or may be battling breast cancer that you join us in wearing pink on Fridays this month.
